           MAGIC YELLOW SCHOOL BUS

It looked like an ordinary yellow school bus.  When I got inside, it had ordinary seats and ordinary windows.  It was only when it started to move that I began to think there is something strange about this yellow school bus.  For one thing, there was no driver.  Every school bus needs a driver; even a second-grader knows that.  For another thing, the bus was completely quiet.  All the kids were talking, shouting, singing, screaming, running up and down the aisle, so it took me awhile to notice that the familiar rumble of the school bus engine just wasn’t there.  And there was a third thing I noticed after we started moving.  The bus was not on the road; we were above the road.  This was very strange.  Airplanes maybe, but a flying school bus?  I called out to my friends but they didn’t seem to notice anything unusual.   For me, it just got stranger and stranger.

The next strange thing was that we didn’t stop at the school.  By this time, we were high off the ground and we just sailed over the top of the school.  I could see people on the ground waving at us, but I couldn’t tell whether they were just waving hello or whether they were trying to warn us that we were about to hit the big tree next to the school.

Fortunately, the bus lifted up a few more feet just in time.  We kept on going and soon we were leaving the town and flying out over the farms.  That’s when I noticed the pig.  It was flying along right beside us and whenever we would turn, it would turn, too.  It was wearing sunglasses.  On the other side of the bus, there was now a flying pumpkin, also wearing sunglasses.  Then the bus turned around and went back towards town and back over our school.

By now, everyone in our school was out in the playground.  I guess they saw us earlier and expected us to come back.  As we got near the school, the bus started doing forward rolls and cartwheels and big loops and tail stands.  The pig and the pumpkin did exactly the same things, in perfect formation.  The bus now started painting the sky with bright colors; the other two did the same and pretty soon the whole sky was a vast painting of criss-crossing trails of color.

Finally, the yellow school bus landed at its usual stop at the school.  I got out and walked to my class room.  I expected that everyone would be surprised and ask me a lot of questions about the flying yellow school bus, but everybody was just like always.  Nobody seemed to notice anything unusual.  So maybe this sort of thing happens all the time and I’m the only one who thinks this was an amazing, unbelievable, incredible, impossible journey.  What do you think?
